Description
Ford built the Boss 302 for one reason: to win the SCCA Trans-Am championship, a road racing series that required manufacturers to homologate a street-legal version of their competition car. The 302 cubic inch small-block was engineered for rev capability — solid lifters, aggressive camshaft, high-flow heads — and the rest of the car was stripped of weight wherever regulations allowed. Ford won the Trans-Am championship in 1970. The street car that made it possible became one of the most respected muscle cars of the era: a race car that happened to be road legal, rather than the reverse.
