Description

The 1987 Buick Regal Grand National GNX is a car that should not exist. Buick was GM's personal luxury division — the marque for Electra 225s and LeSabres, for doctors and retirees. The GNX was built in partnership with McLaren Engines and powered by a turbocharged V6 that put 276 horsepower on paper and considerably more in reality. Motor Trend tested it against a Ferrari Testarossa in late 1987 and the GNX won. Buick built 547 of them and never made anything like it again.

This release pairs the GNX with Run The Jewels — El-P and Killer Mike, two of the most critically respected rappers working — and Volcom, rooted in the overlap between action sports and music culture. The collaboration fits the car. The GNX is the car of the outsider with something to prove, built by a division nobody expected to try. Dark paint, sinister trim, correct company.
