The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL arrived in 1954 as the road-going adaptation of the W194 racing car that had won Le Mans in 1952. The gullwing doors were a direct consequence of the racing car's high sill structure, itself a function of the spaceframe chassis that gave the 300 SL its rigidity. The fuel-injected 3.0-litre straight-six was the first production car engine to use Bosch direct injection — a technology the rest of the industry would take five decades to adopt as standard. It was also, by a considerable margin, the most beautiful car of its era.
The Elite 64 release presents it as a Bonneville campaigner — raw ZAMAC with a clear matte finish to replicate aged metal, gullwing doors that open, period-accurate Real Riders wheels, and race number 140 marking Mercedes-Benz's 140th anniversary.
