On 23 March 2021, the Hot Wheels design team lost one of their own. Ryu Asada had spent years at Mattel bringing technical precision and genuine car passion to the casting process — his knowledge of Japanese performance cars shaped a generation of JDM releases. By every account from those who knew him, one of the warmest people in the building.
This S2000 is a tribute to him. The Honda S2000 was built to mark Honda's 50th anniversary and remains one of the finest front-engined, rear-drive sports cars ever made — its high-revving F20C screaming to 9,000 rpm in an era when that number seemed impossible from a naturally-aspirated two-litre. Ryu chose the S2000 for this casting. The care that went into it shows. It is a collector piece in both senses of the word.
